As an Eagle Scout, a University of Utah graduate with a degree in Game Design, and owner of IRL Games, I know how vital the Merit Badge program is in scouting. It has always been a way to become exposed to new ideas, skills, hobbies, and potential professions. Some Merit Badges may be learning something new, while others can become a lifelong passion. My passion has always been games; through scouting, I learned more about what would become my hobby, profession, and business. Through our merit badge program, I hope to return to scouting and the community.
Below are the Merit badges we offer and how to sign up for them. I am registered as a BSA Merit Badge Counselor with Monmouth Council and Washington's Crossing Council. Classes are open, on a first-come, first-served basis to any Scouts BSA member and troop from anywhere. As required by BSA all merit badge classes and scout interactions follow current BSA Youth Protection Guidelines.
To enroll in a merit badge class, please take note of the prerequisites for each class. In addition, the following are prerequisites for all merit badge classes.
- Signed Merit Badge Blue Card from your Scoutmaster - this approves you to work on the badge.
- Show up prepared with the worksheet/workbook for the merit badge. Links to the correct workbooks are below.
- Adhere to the Scout Law, Scout Oath, Youth Protection, and the Guide To Safe Scouting.
- Class space is limited. If you sign up, show up, please. If you can not, please call or let us know ahead of time so we can fill the spot and be better prepared.
- Come ready to participate with your completed prerequisites and some knowledge of the merit badge that you signed up for.
Parents: You are welcome to stay during the merit badge classes, we usually have room to sit. We also have very nice shops and cafes in and around our store if you want to get some air. We ask that if you are dropping off your scout, they have a way (phone) and a time they expect you to pick them up.
